This guy showed up about 3 days after we moved in. He wandered around on the front of the house and then took off across the driveway - never to be seen again. We think he was looking for a partner - no volunteers from inside the house!

Hawks are pretty common in this area. This one seems fairly large and sat in the tree right outside our kitchen window.

We have a bird feeder out back, so the quail come around occasionally.

This is a very young javelina (correct name is collared peccary - you can just see his/her collar). It got separated from its mother and decided I would make a great substitute! I bundled it up in a towel and returned it to mom in woods.

We are frequently visited by javelina. In this case there was a small herd in the back yard. There were 15 of them, including the little ones.

This flicker likes to sit on the chimney spark arrestor and hammer it with his beak (they are related to woodpeckers). The sound resonates through the house - it drives the cat nuts! It turns out this is one way they use to attract females.

In July 2007, we have had a pair of roadrunners move onto the hill behind us. Here is one of them.

We have planted some flowering plants in our courtyard (that require little water) in order to attract butterflies and hummingbirds. Success!
